Breweries have been all the rage ever since the beer laws in Georgia changed back in 2017 allowing breweries to sell beer directly to their consumers without strict limitations. Before the bill passed, breweries had to sell tickets for tasting tours and customers couldn’t simply come in to grab a beer and casually hang out with friends. With the new laws comes new breweries springing up all around the Atlanta area making them the new hot spots to spend weekends and to host events.
In this series, we will be highlighting some Metro Atlanta breweries and diving deeper into what makes them so special. Breweries have become more than just a place to drink beer and watch sporting events, they have now turned into the trendy places to host weddings, birthdays, corporate meetings and happy hours, fundraisers and so much more!
With so many options, it can be overwhelming to decide which brewery is the perfect fit for you, your schedule or your future event. Each brewery has a totally different feel, while some are dog friendly, others are more family focused and some are better suited for a younger crowd. Luckily, we are here to break down what makes each brewery special, making your decision that much easier.
So, whether you are on the lookout for an event venue, new to the Atlanta area, visiting a friend, or just want to stray away from your typical bar scene this series will help guide you through some of the best breweries around the city of Atlanta. First off, we have: Gate City Brewing Company.

About the Brewery
Gate City is located on Magnolia Street in Roswell, Georgia. The brewery is just down the road from Canton Street in Historic Downtown Roswell, which has recently grown into a bustling area with tons of trendy restaurants and stores. Co-founders Brian Borngesser and Pat Rains met in a Roswell Rotary Club meeting and instantly connected over a common interest in brewing beer and serving their local community. The duo started crafting beer together and in 2012 their vision for Roswell’s first craft brewery evolved into a solid business plan. Three years later and Gate City Brewing Co. was created.
Gate City is a two-story, 3000 sq. ft. taproom with up to twenty house-brewed beers on draft. Some of their beers include: Half Gallon, a dark chocolate creamy milk stout, Fast Fjord, a pineapple citrus IPA and Copperhead, a dry caramel Red Ale. Their unique flavors keep customers on their toes, and their consistent release of new beers brings the community back in the door. Besides their beer, Gate City has new events happening every weekend (although some have been put on hold due to COVID-19) such as live music, food trucks, painting and monthly yoga classes, they are always looking for ways to crack open a beer with their community. If you’ve never been, this brewery is a must to scope out in your free time!

The Backhouse at Gate City
Besides their large beer selection and weekend community hangouts, Gate City also has a private event space, The Backhouse, available for rent for wedding receptions, rehearsal dinners, corporate meetings and more. Here are three unique attributes that make The Backhouse special:
- It has the perfect mix of hip and charming features. The space has beautiful natural lighting due to the glass garage doors and the wooden fixtures give the space an overall modern feel. The space can fit up to 75 guests and is perfect for any social gathering!

- For your guests that may not drink beer, Gate City has got your back. Their new distillery options give way to an extended beverage selection including seltzers and cocktails. They even offer the option to create your own signature cocktail, so there really is a beverage for everyone!
